Gregory Hugh Montgomery Jr. was larger than life. His calm demeanor would mesmerize, while his wisdom would inspire. He would make you feel like you were the center of the universe. “You Are It”, he would say. He believed that anyone could reach their fullest potential if they realized that they were the creator of their own reality. No one was more of a prime example of this than the man himself.
Greg was the American Dream, but where there are dreams, there are also nightmares. Greg was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1997. For over 20 years, Greg rode extreme highs and fell to the depths of despair. Yet, even while battling demons, Greg was dedicated to making the world a better place. He led years of punting camps for aspiring football players, but more importantly, felt an obligation to connect with all he met. He was dedicated to raising awareness about mental illness. He was outspoken and bravely told his story about his struggle with bipolar disorder.
Greg is our inspiration, and we are determined to build on his pursuit of Ultimate Growth. We bring awareness, aid, and community to those afflicted by mental illness.
The Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Student Athlete Mental-Wellness Fund started by our foundation provides mental health resources for student athletes. Currently we have worked with two fantastic partners: Michigan State University and Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver, NJ. For our work, The Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey saluted the Gregory H. Montgomery Jr. Foundation with an official Resolution as highly esteemed throughout the Garden State, for our diligent efforts advocating for mental wellness and suicide prevention in New Jersey communities and beyond.
