Purpose Over Pain (POP) was formed in 2007 by several Chicago area parents who lost their children to gun violence. These and other parents who were affected by violence now have a Purpose to be effective in preventing gun violence over merely living with the pain.
Our mission:
We provide positive development activities for children and youth, advocate for and promote safer communities, and strengthen families by providing crisis support to parents or guardians whose children have been victims of gun violence.
What we do:
Purpose Over Pain hosts community events throughout the year that include the Safe Saturday Nights 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Mentoring, Parent Support Days and Unsolved Cases Forums. These events give us a platform to sensitize the community about the painful effects of gun violence, bring awareness to common sense preventive solutions, and provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for our youth, parents and members of the community.
