In April 2014, I was diagnosed with a 4" sarcoma tumor in my right middle gluteus. When my doctor told me, I asked, "What's sarcoma?" I had never heard of it.

After being misdiagnosed for six months, I learned that sarcoma is rare and accounts for 1% of adult cancers and 20% in children. My doctor had not seen one in her 30 year career - until me. 

I was lucky. Through 30 rounds of radiation and a lifechanging surgery by a sarcoma expert, I still get to live. The surgery took most of my middle glute which makes walking difficult. While I can't participate in the race, I can raise awareness and funds for research - which is key to saving lives.
