This team means everything to my family and me. My dad, Mark, passed away in September 2025 after an almost two year battle with cancer. He was a patient at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and I will always be grateful for the care, compassion, and hope they gave our family.

He was the best dad, husband, friend, and son. He had a big personality, the kind that filled every room, and he loved people deeply. He also loved to cycle, and if you knew him you might be smiling picturing his 6 foot 4, 220 (ish) pound self out there in tight spandex, fully embracing it and loving every second.

I rode in this fundraiser last year in his honor, and being back again this year feels even more meaningful. It is a way to stay connected to him, to channel the grief into something good, and to keep showing up the best way I know how.

Our team name, Shiny Happy People, is inspired by his love for R.E.M., a small piece of him that we get to carry with us through all of this.

We have come together because we believe in making a difference for our families, for this community, and for everyone still in the fight. Together we hope to raise more for LOWVELO26 than we ever could alone.

Supporting our team is simple, secure, and truly impactful. One hundred percent of every dollar raised goes directly to lifesaving cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, helping move us closer to better treatments, better outcomes, and one day a cure.
