The Leading Edge Take Heart (LETH) 10K/5K is an annual event held in Lakeland, FL that makes a global impact in the lives of orphans and widows in rural Kenya. This year, the majority of funds raised will go towards education and entrepreneurship projects in the Oyuma Village community in rural Kenya. Runners and walkers alike can make a difference together by participating in this family community event.
My experience with Take Heart occurred when I had the opportunity to take a trip to Kenya with Delta, a longtime friend from our middle school days. This trip afforded me the opportunity to see firsthand the work being done through Take Heart. I was able to meet the widows and students being sponsored through Take Heart and the life changing opportunity it gives for those able to receive it. I currently am blessed to be able to sponsor Vinny, a young man who is working hard in his schooling. He loves calling me Mum and I am thankful to meet his need as an orphan who needs support.
I know that through sponsorships and the giving from individuals meets the needs of those who need it most. The scriptures teach that pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27)
