Our story begins in 2009 when Bill Johnston, a recent college grad from NC State, connected with family friend and textile veteran, John Riddle, with an interest in buying one of John’s old road bikes. Bill ended up buying the bike from John, and the two became fast friends as they started riding together. While spinning wheels in the mountains of North Carolina, John and Bill recognized their shared passion for outdoor sports and protecting the natural environment. This enthusiasm along with their entrepreneurial spirits forged the idea of starting Recover.

In 2010, Bill and John founded Recover as a mission-driven sustainable apparel company that would not only reduce plastic pollution in our rivers, oceans, landfills, and adventure playgrounds, but would also give people an easy choice to be part of a solution instead of part of a problem. They wanted to develop a company that focused on being as environmentally-friendly and socially responsible as possible in all aspects of the business - from design to manufacturing to fulfillment.

Today, our vision for the company and mission to work for a sustainable tomorrow, today is as true as it was in the beginning.

And ever inspired by y’all, our journey continues...
