Event Set Up

Details

Help unpack cars and set up venue for the event. Volunteers will place baby memorial signs along the beginning of the 5K. Volunteers must be able to drive stakes into the ground around the course. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing, shoes and bring work gloves.

Greeters

Details

At the start of the event, Greeters play a vital role in welcoming participants and helping them feel comfortable. You’ll assist guests in navigating the venue — showing them or explaining where to find check-in, water stations, restrooms, and other key areas.

Your main task is to look for participants who may appear unsure of where to go and kindly offer guidance. Cowtown can feel large and overwhelming, especially for those who are newly bereaved, so please engage everyone with care, compassion, and a warm smile.

Greeters are one of the most important volunteer roles — you set the tone for the entire event by creating a welcoming, supportive atmosphere.

At the finish line, please give medals to all children as they complete the course. Celebrate their accomplishment and make them feel proud of their achievement!

Location

Check-in at the Empire House. Greeters are staggered through out Old Cowtown from the visitor parking lot to the participant check-in (located in front of the Empire House).

Volunteer Hospitality

Details

Assist the Volunteer Lead with setting up the breakfast buffet and welcoming volunteers as they arrive. Help with volunteer check-in, ensuring everyone receives their materials and knows where to go.

After breakfast, assist with clean-up and maintaining a tidy, welcoming area for all volunteers.

Your support helps start the day smoothly and makes every volunteer feel appreciated and prepared for their role!

Registration

Details

Assist with the registration process for those who need to check in and those who need to register. Help participants by handing out packets, bibs and timing chips.

Provide clear information, answer basic questions, and ensure each participant feels welcomed and ready for the event. Your attention to detail helps keep check-in smooth, efficient, and stress-free!

5K Race Course Marshal

April 25, 2026

Details

Help get runners in position for the start of the race. Make sure runners stay on the route and cheer them on by clapping or saying encouraging words as they run/walk by. Fill water cups and pass them out to the runners as they come by.

Marshals will be given sidewalk chalk to write motivational words/drawings where you are stationed on the 5K.

Brunch

April 25, 2026

Details

Brunch volunteers will help set up the hot cocoa bar before the race, welcome participants to the post-race brunch, and assist with cleanup after the event.

DJ Table

Details

Help arrange the DJ table with prizes and support the DJ during announcements and the awards ceremony.

Photographers

April 25, 2026

Details

Use your cell phone to take photos of all aspects of the event. We encourage photographers to be creative while being sensitive to those who are grieving. Please email your photos to KIDS Network at admin@kidsks.org.

Tally

Details

Record and tally day-of income, gross and net income, number of participants, number of teams, and the largest team.

Clean-Up

April 25, 2026

Details

Assist with event teardown by cleaning up supplies around Cowtown. Ensure trash is picked up and placed in bins in the volunteer parking lot, wipe down and return tables and chairs to buildings, gather directional signs along the route and around Cowtown, and help pack event supplies into cars for transport back to KIDS Network. This is a key role that allows KIDS Network staff to organize the office, hit the ground running after the event and leave the facility in excellent condition for future events.

Gate Greeter for Big Rigs

Details

Greeter will stand at the gate and direct big rigs including fire trucks and ambulances to drive around the ball field and avoid driving down downtown Cowtown where people will be gathering for the event.

Children's Activities

April 25, 2026

Details

Assist with setting up children’s games and support kids as they play. Be hospitable and welcoming, create a positive learning environment using the historic Wichita’s Old Cowtown Museum setting, engage and encourage children to explore the museum, and help with cleanup afterward.
