Dear Family and Friends,

I’m writing to you because we count you among the people we love who are doing beautiful things to support our communities amidst this chaotic time in our world. Next weekend, Darius, Aida and I are riding 45 miles with Ride 4A Reason to raise money for public schools in Oakland and Alameda. As we know from first-hand experience, Oakland public schools are very underfunded. Fundamental educational services and programs such as reading intervention, library time, music and arts, special education support, and field trips are most often only provided through nonprofit fundraising like Ride 4A Reason.

COVID-19 highlighted the glaring inequities in our education system. Now that the short-term funding from the pandemic years has expired, the budget crisis in Oakland schools is greater than ever. Over the last 18 years, Ride 4A Reason has raised over $2 million for public schools in Oakland and Alameda. Aida, Darius and I are joining them this year in this effort. We are committed to ride and raise awareness for our dismally underfunded school system that affects us all as students, parents, teachers, and neighbors. 

Our goal is to raise $300 by the time we hop on our bikes on April 25th - can you donate today to help us get there? 100% of the funds we raise will go directly to these public schools in Oakland and Alameda. Please consider donating any amount to help us get there.
