Since 2015, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has hosted the Tunnel to Towers Tower Climb at One World Observatory in New York City. Each year, participants ascend 104 stories to honor the strength, hope, and resilience of the American spirit — and to pay tribute to the heroic sacrifices made on September 11, 2001.
This climb commemorates heroes like FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller, who was off duty when the attacks occurred. Upon hearing the news, he strapped on 60 pounds of gear and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center — where he gave his life saving others.
It also honors Captain Billy Burke, who was on the 27th floor of the North Tower when the South Tower collapsed. Refusing to leave behind those who couldn’t escape, he urged his team and others to go ahead — sacrificing his own life so others could live.
The climb concludes with breathtaking views from the top of One World Observatory, overlooking the 9/11 Memorial pools that now stand in place of the Twin Towers.
