Despite impressive recent advances, several types of cancer are still prevailing. This includes Colorectal Cancer that affects 1 in 25 individuals and is alarmingly rising, especially among younger ages. Our lab at MUSC and the Hollings Cancer Center is specifically focusing on identifying the causes of this increase in Colorectal Cancer and develop new therapies to fight back. We are particularly working on a breakthrough mechanism that restores the gut barrier and normal RNA homeostasis, which we have found is lost in cancer, allowing the cancer to progress.

For these reasons and having experienced cancer extensively in my family and friends' families, I've joined LOWVELO26. I am passionate about making a difference in my community and helping find a cure for cancer.
