I'm supporting Seymour Pink, a 501 (c) (3) non profit organization that assists those with breast cancer. Help me in the FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER!
Once again I'm serving on the committee to bring this race to life! Please consider a donation to the all grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit Seymour Pink. Your donation helps the organization continue its mission to serve breast cancer patients and their families through things like....
- Financial Support for those in the fight for qualified expenses like mortgage payments, medical payments, utilities (Bills are submitted & Seymour Pink makes direct payment, not just providing cash to patients)
- Chemotherapy Comfort Baskets for those undergoing treatment
- Partnerships with local hospitals - For instance, everyone who gets a mammogram at Griffin receives a Bella Blanket coating on the machine, funded by Seymour Pink.
- Scholarships for college bound students affected by Breast Cancer
In 2020, Mrs. Deming came to me asking if I had any ideas for taking the annual Pounding the Pavement for Pink 5k virtual, since I was doing a lot of running at that time, and a lot of virtual races to stay motivated when real races weren’t allowed. I joined the 5k committee and we successfully took our annual race virtual drawing participants from 30 states! I've continued to serve on the all-volunteer committee to bring this race back every year. The wave of PINK making its way down River Street Seymour is nothing short of incredible! For small town we've got a big race and even bigger hearts supporting this cause!
A Community’s Fight Against Breast Cancer
Connecticut ranks higher than average across the US for incidence of breast cancer in women - currently at #3. For many years, we ranked 2nd after Washington D.C. which last I checked isn't even a real state… Yikes! In 2021, Connecticut was the highest. Now, neighboring New England States of Rhode Island and New Hampshire are competing for slightly higher incidence - whichever one of us it is - it’s not good for our area... While overall survival rates have increased over the years, diagnoses still are happening at increased rates and in even younger people. It’s so important to continue to raise awareness and encourage women’s well visits regularly for all of our loved ones.
About Seymour Pink
Seymour Pink is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in my hometown of Seymour, Connecticut supporting patients and families affected by breast cancer. By donating to Seymour Pink you are contributing to a grassroots, 100% volunteer organization with all monies raised staying in the local community. No one on their board receives a paycheck.
As of 2023, Seymour Pink serves 42 towns/cities in Connecticut. Additionally, they partner with local hospitals - The Hewitt's Breast Wellness Center at Griffin Hospital and Smilow at Yale.
They provide comfort baskets for those in treatment, have a scholarship program for college bound students, and most importantly provide financial support towards basic living expenses, paid directly to the entity (utility / mortgage / medical expense, etc). Mary Deming and the entire pink team do so much for the community and for those in need. I am so honored to be a part of the team that does so much to battle this awful disease.
