Saturday Morning Pre-Race

Course Pre-ride High Priority

Details

Ride 15 Miles of the long course before the kids race to ensure markings are intact and clear. Please ensure you start early enough to complete the course before the start of the Youth Race at 11:25 am. Covering this distance will be split between two people.

Note: Markings will be setup for the long race, with the exception of the 2mi loop for kids races.

Call the course coordinators (906-281-7343 Kim or 612-730-0775 Drew) if anything is amiss or needs correction. (i.e. markings missing, trees down across the trail, etc.). We will coordinate prior to race day.

This is a critical position not to be taken lightly, once you sign up only finding a qualified substitute or a note from your mortician will be acceptable.

Adult Start & Finish Line Setup Low Priority

Assist Drew and Kim with setting up the Start/Finish area at top of Chalet parking lot. This includes placing cones, barrier tape, finish banner, flagging in the chalet parking lot. Also assisting our timing company, Superior Timing.

Keep people from parking on Osceola Road or the Chalet and redirect them to the designated parking areas (maps will be provided)

Youth Race

Youth Race Aid Station Medium Priority

Details

Staff the Kids Race Aid Station from 11:30am to 12:30pm. This is a water/gatorade only station. Help direct kids who should not be doing another lap to the finish line.

Details

Write down race numbers of kids who pass through laps. Help direct kids who should not be doing another lap to the finish line. This is a great job for parents of racers who are not out on the course with their kids.

You must be 16-80 years old to volunteer for this task.

Details

11:20am to 12:30pm. Ride behind 6 and 4 and 2 mile racers. First aid training preferred but not necessary. Cell phone helpful. 1-3 volunteers. This is a good volunteer position for parents of kids in the race (though, you'll have to ride behind the racers)

Youth Race Finisher Prize Handouts Medium Priority

Details

11:30am - 12:30pm Give every kid who finishes (or who started and didn't finish) a toy.

Location

Swedetown Chalet parking lot. Meet with race coordinator anytime between 9-11:20 am at the Swedetown Chalet's Registration table. Race start is 11:25 am.

Traffic Control - Adult Race Start High Priority

You must be 16-80 years old to volunteer for this task.

Details

12:45pm to 1:20pm - Control Vehicle traffic on Osceola Road for the start of the race. Meet with race volunteer coordinator (Kim) between 8am and 12:30pm at the Chalet Registration table. This is a great volunteer role for the a family member of a participant.

This is a critical position - please make sure you will be attending, rain or shine, before committing to this role.

Aid Station 1 High Priority

August 2, 2024

Details

1:00pm to 2:15pm, and 2:15pm to 3:30pm (two shifts)

Setup and operate the Aid 1 station for the race for all 15/30 participants. Should be set up by 1:00 pm as first racer arrives sometime after 1:20 pm. Water and Powerade (50% of normal) as well as some fruit, gu as required by the racers. This is a two-sided aid station like 2022's. After 3:30pm, water and energy food can be left for racers to self-serve.

Near the warming shack on Greenstone ski trail. A detailed map and instructions will be provided.

Aid Station 2 High Priority

August 2, 2024

Details

1:30pm to 2:45pm, 2:45pm to 4:00pm

Set up and maintain the 2nd Aid station (for long and short course racers). This is a water-only station, and is easily accessible from the road and parking.
After 4pm, water and cups can be left for riders to self-serve.

Corner of Spruce Street and Osceola Road, where the riders enter the ATV trail to return to the Chalet.

30 Mile Sweep High Priority

Details

Ride behind last racer(s) in the 30 mile course. First aid training preferred.
Cell phone helpful.

Race start at the Swedetown Chalet driveway, 1:00pm start, check in with volunteer coordinator prior to the race at Swedetown Chalet Registration/Finish tent.

Finish Area Support Medium Priority

Noon to 4:00pm (two shifts, Noon to 2:00pm and 2:00 to 4:00pm)
Make sure the finishers tent is stocked with water, gatorade, bananas, snacks.

Race Safety Patroller High Priority

You must be 18-70 years old to volunteer for this task.

Details

Patrol central core of race course, being available to respond to medical situations that may arise during the course of the race. First Aid training required. Should carry basic first aid supplies. Cell phone helpful, radios will be supplied. ATV or similar off road vehicle may be used, mountain bike would be better and improve response time.
This is a critical position not to be taken lightly, once you sign up only finding a qualified substitute or a note from your mortician will be acceptable.

Location

Swedetown Recreation Area, Great Deer Chase race course. Meet with race coordinator at 11:00 am at the Chalet for the Kids Race, Noon for the Adult Race
