Why I ride the VT50

On September 28, 2025 at the 33rd Vermont 50 race, I’ll be on the start line for the 28th time.

I started racing the VT50 in 1994 when my friend, Stuart Ashley, convinced me to join him. In those days I think it cost $25 and we’d show up to register the morning of the race, a group of mostly men and a few women lined up in the dark before the 5:00AM (I think) start. Now the race sells out within an hour in May, when it opens on the race director’s mother’s birthday.

In recent years I’ve sought to raise more money for Vermont Adaptive, and this year I’d like to raise $750.00. Of you can help in even a very small way, I’d be grateful.

I have had the luxury of engineer sport my whole life. Through sickness and injury I’ve been able to come back to pretty much full force. Some of my friends require adaptations to equipment to be able to continue to engage, or gain entry to engaging in many of the sports I love. From biking to skiing, sailing to sled hockey, all manner of sport is made available to all manner of people through programs administered or supported by Vermont Adaptive. Your donation to this campaign will help put more people into activities that are sustaining and fulfilling.

Please help me if you’re able.

Thank you very much for any support you can give,

Jared
