What is Ride for a Reason?
RIDE FOR A REASON is an annual bike ride from Oakland to Sacramento to advocate for public education, and raise essential funds for school enrichment programs in Oakland. We ride to the steps of the State Capitol to advocate for greater funding for education.
Many elective classes and enrichment programs depend entirely on community fundraising. But community fundraising alone can’t do the deep work needed to fully support all schools. That’s why we ride to Sacramento — to bring attention to underfunded schools.
Why am I riding?
I love Oakland schools, students, and communities.
I also like biking and a good challenge. Signing up for a 100+ mile bike ride is a big fitness stretch goal and I'm ready to take it on!
Also, in an ideal world, education is prioritized by all of society with money, respect, and resources. We are far from that ideal world right now - We know that education is severely underfunded, and schools and teachers are overstretched. Schools, educators, and students are also doing amazing things to provide the best quality education they can, and this is my chance to share some ways you can support this work!
I won't be able to get ready without you: Can you support me and the REASON behind Ride For a Reason (Oakland schools!)?
