Event Safety

The safety of event participants is our top priority. Please follow the direction of any event signage as well as instructions or directions from event staff who will be wearing "Event Staff" t-shirts.

Staff will be stationed throughout all areas of the event including the parking lot at Holy Trinity Church, the annex lot and along the course. If you have any questions or concerns during the event, please notify staff.

Fairfax County Police officers will also be on hand and can assist with emergencies.

Parking, arrivals and departures

For those arriving by car, follow the direction of signage, cones or other traffic control devices, and staff nearby located nearby and within the parking lot at Holy Trinity Church. Maintain a 5 mph or slower speed limit in the lot. Once parked, for your safety, please do not socialize in the church’s lot. Proceed to the nearest section of pedestrian path and make your way to the annex lot.

For those arriving on foot, bicycle or by other means, please only use dedicated sidewalks or paths and cross streets only in crosswalks when safe to do so.

Please observe the same precautions when departing the event.

Road crossings

There will be police officers at intersections to facilitate safe crossing from the parking area to the event as well as navigate participants from the event start on Georgetown Pike to the shared-used path. Follow the officers' instructions to ensure safety for pedestrians and motorists. If a police officer is not present at an intersection, only cross within a crosswalk when the signal indicates it is safe to do so.

Hydration and participant safety

Participants are encouraged to come to the event well-hydrated. As the event will occur in late-June, temperatures could be hot. Water will be available at the start and finish as well as at the underpass of Old Dominion Drive on the 4.95K course, which occurs just before the 1-mile mark and just after the 2-mile mark. A shade structure will also be available in this location.

This is a non-competitive event and participants should look out for one another. The trail is 10 feet wide and will be shared by runners using it in both directions. Runners should keep a reasonable and safe distance from others, avoid horseplay and wear appropriate attire.

If minor first-aid is needed, staff members will have first-aid kits. In the event of an emergency, dial 911.

Rain or Shine

The event will be held rain-or-shine unless there are severe storms or other urgent safety risks. Please come prepared for the forecast with appropriate clothing, sunscreen and/or rain gear. In the event of a cancellation, we will email registrants and post a notice to this website.
