The Conor Irwin Memorial Classic Race honors Conor Irwin, an intelligent, funny, kind, and amazingly fast young man who passed away tragically on December 5, 2016 at the age of 14 well before his time in a skateboarding accident. All proceeds from the race go directly to the Conor Irwin Memorial Fund which provides scholarships to deserving students.
For 2022, the Conor Irwin Memorial Classic will offer both a live and a virtual option. The live event will take place at Ledyard High School on June 11, 2022 at 3 PM. The race course will be the newly-dedicated Conor S. Irwin Memorial Cross Country Course. Awards will be given to the top winners in their age groups. For the virtual event, participants can complete the 5K in any way they would like - running, walking, swimming, rowing, etc. The virtual event will be open from registration until June 11, 2022 and can be completed anywhere.
T-shirts will be provided to those participants (either live or virtual) who would like one, or you can select "NO SHIRT" at registration. We love to see people wearing their "Conor Shirts", but you can also send all of the $35 registration fee to the Conor Irwin Memorial Fund by not getting a shirt. In addition, the website allows you to donate any desired amount to the Fund if you prefer not to participate.

Today May 3rd, 2021 should have been Conor's 19th birthday. We would like to take today to announce the Third Annual Conor Irwin Memorial Classic 5K run. 2021 is again 100% virtual. While we had discussed doing both a virtual race and a live run this year, COVID continued while we were busy making those plans. The run days will be June 12, 201 through June 26, 2021: 14 days to run... one day for each of the years of his life. We have three prizes for the best bow ties once again (running your 5K in the shape of a bow tie). Last year, people ran, walked, hiked, swam, rowed, and biked. We know Conor would have loved all the different and creative ways people completed their 5Ks, and we greatly appreciate your participation. The money raised from this run funds scholarships for students to attend college, trade schools, and the Northwest Kingdom Running Camp (NKRC) in Vermont in Conor's name as a way to keep his outgoing spirit alive.
Conor liked helping people without any need for recognition. Doing for others made him feel good. It just came naturally to him. He would be proud of every individual participating in this event and so humbled to see the amazing support. Our family is honored to bring his compassion and kindness to light by having this run in his name.
Last year's academic scholarships went o Noah Cayangyang, Ally Tran, and Jeremy Foilar. NKRC Scholarship went to Freshman Connor Banks. This year, our goal is to raise $1.00 more than last year. We hope you will join us.
