Remembering SSG Kenneth White

Loyal, Honest, Hardworking -  Son, Husband, Brother, and Friend

April 10, 1948 - May 1, 1969

Rockford, Illinois

KIA  May 1, 1969 in Hau Nghia, South Vietnam where he was serving with the 2nd Battalion of the 25th Infantry Division.

Sgt. Kenneth L. White, was twice decorated for bravery in action. While serving in Vietnam, July, 1968, with the 25th Infantry Division, Sgt. White received two Bronze Stars. He also received the Purple Heart. Kenny (as family and friends call him) graduated from West High School, he joined the Army in 1967. He lived all his life in Rockford, IL before joining the Army.  He was employed by Sundberg Printers and Lithographers.

SSG Kenneth White wrote many letters home during his deployment to Vietnam. In his letters written to his family he said, "I don't like this war or what I'm doing. But I do believe in what I'm fighting for and will continue to fight for what I believe in as long as I have to. I've seen men die for their country--the country they want to see free for themselves and their families. What a price to pay, but it has been paid many times over and every day more are added--all for love of country and freedom. I'll fight the best I can and do as much as I can to help...and I know as I lead other men I'll be leading them for something great and precious to all of us."
