Since 1980, more than 140,000 runners have made running from the quiet and calm of the Saylorville Dam to the heat and high-rises of downtown Des Moines one of the greatest running traditions in central Iowa.
We like to joke that no one in their right mind would conceive such a course today. But, 47 years ago, 375 runners joined in the first running of this route and started a tradition unlike anything else around. No two years are alike, so whether you’re a weekend warrior, a first-timer, or a diehard this iconic running event is for you.
