Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions we get asked. You might have the same one!
1) Do I need to wear a wetsuit?
We follow USAT guidelines. Wetsuits are required if the water is below 60.6 deg F and they are allowed up to 78 deg F water.
The lakes around here don't usually go outside of the "OK" temperature range. It's always your choice and what you feel most comfortable with.
All of the USAT rules can be found here: https://www.usatriathlon.org/multisport/rules
For Lake Stevens: The swim is a waist to chest to shoulder level deep start, with expected water temperatures of 68-72.
2) Speaking of water - how deep is the lake?
As mentioned above, the start is at about chest to shoulder level. After that? I have no idea. All I know is that I haven't heard of anyone that can touch once you leave the shore.
Here is a depth chart of the lake: https://fishing-app.gpsnauticalcharts.com/i-boating-fishing-web-app/fishing-marine-charts-navigation.html?title=Lake+Stevens+boating+app#13/48.0050/-122.0850/
North Cove Park is at the upper right / northeast part of the lake. Where the little "spout" is.
3) I need to change from Triathlon to Aquabike or Olympic to Sprint - at the same race.
Up to 2 weeks prior to registration closing, you can change that on your own!
This is called an "event" transfer and can be done through runsignup. Here is a help page that walks through the steps:
https://help.runsignup.com/support/solutions/articles/17000062922-transfer-to-another-event
4) When is the latest I need to let you know if I want to change my distance or discipline?!?
Before the start of the race. The best time would be no later than when you pick up your packet.
Note: If it's more than 2 weeks from the event, see #3 above!
