Do I need a gravel bike?
No, a gravel bike is not required, but it is highly recommended for this event. Alternative options would be a hard-tail mountain bike, followed by a CX bike. We STRONGLY recommend against using a road bike on this course, but if you feel you must, please select the widest tires possible.
Are E-Bikes allowed?
Unfortunately, due to permitting and land-use Restrictions, We cannot allow E-bikes in the Event.
What about the bears?!
Whitefish is Grizzly bear country, and while bear attacks are rare, it is important that you come prepared for not only The Last Best Ride, but also your other adventures around Whitefish and any possible trips into Glacier National Park. We recommend taking the time to become bear-aware for your safety, as well as that of the animals who live in the areas that we have the privilege to recreate in.
We recommend that you carry bear spray during The Last Best Ride, as well as during all your outdoor Montana activities. You can rent bear spray at Glacier National Airport or pick it up around town at any outdoor establishment (Sportsman Ski Haus, Walgreens, ACE Hardwear...). Check out on line on how to use bear spray safely. Please note it should NOT be used a perfume.
Will there be on course support?
TLBR is fully sponsored and will support you with not only great cheerleaders but water, electrolyte supplements, snacks and fuel along the way. Please refer to our website for the list of all the aid stations. If you have a personal support team, there will be a number of opportunities for hand ups cheering. Again, please refer to our website; www.TheLastBestRideMT.com
There will be able bodied volunteers to help with simple mechanical needs, however you should be ready and able to perform your own on course mechanical aid.
Are headphones allowed?
In ear headphones are highly discourraged. You will be riding on open roads. Ditch the headphones listen to your heavy breathing and the inner voices asking why you signed up for such a grueling event.
