1. What is the Lyons-Heart Gravel Classic?

The Lyons-Heart Gravel Classic is a premier gravel bike race in Mandan, North Dakota, featuring stunning rolling hills along the Heart River. Riders can choose from three distances:

35-mile non-competitive ride
65-mile race
100-mile race

The event is open to all skill levels, from first-time gravel riders to seasoned endurance racers.

2. When and where is the race?

Date: July 11, 2026
Location: Mandan, North Dakota
Start/Finish: Downtown Mandan

The race begins in historic downtown Mandan, and the route takes riders through scenic gravel roads, rolling hills, and rugged North Dakota terrain.

3. How do I register?

You can register online at RunSignup. Registration closes on July 9, 2026 at 11:59pm CDT, so be sure to sign up early!

4. What is included with my registration?

Each registered rider receives:

  • Chip timing for all eventsLive tracking for 100-mi racers from Adventure Enablers
  • Free event t-shirt if registered by June 24, 2026
  • Cash prizes for Overall Top-3 (Men & Women). More info coming soon
  • On-course aid stations (all distances)
  • Finishers patch for every finisher
  • Complimentary meal ticket (use at a food vendor)
  • Complimentary drink ticket
  • Post-race live music and finish-line party in downtown Mandan
  • Race Expo — Friday, July 10
  • Shakeout rides — Friday, July 10
5. What type of bike should I ride?

A gravel bike is recommended, but you can also ride:

  • Cyclocross bike
  • Mountain bike
  • Adventure/touring bike
  • Ebikes welcome in 35-mi event

Tires 38mm or wider are suggested for the best handling on gravel roads.

6. What is the terrain like?

The course features:

  • Rolling hills and winding gravel roads and some minimum maintenance roads
  • A mix of packed gravel, loose sections, and some punchy climbs
  • Minimal pavement – this is a true gravel experience!

The 100- and 65-mile races includes some challenging climbs and MMR sections, while the 35-mile ride is great for beginners.

7. Are there aid stations on the course?

Yes! We will have fully stocked aid stations along the route with:

  • Water & electrolytes
  • Snacks & energy gels

Locations and mileage details will be shared closer to race day.

8. What are the race categories?

We offer multiple race categories, including:

  • Mens & Womens (100-mile & 65-mile)
  • Para-Cycling Category
  • E-bike in the Non-Competitive 35-Mile Ride
  • Non-Competitive 35-Mile Ride

10. Where should I stay in Bismarck/Mandan?

Bismarck/Mandan offers several great lodging options:

Book early, as accommodations fill up fast for race weekend!

11. What happens if there is bad weather?

Gravel racing happens rain or shine! However, in the case of severe weather, race organizers will adjust the event for rider safety. Updates will be posted on our Social Media pages and via email.
