I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for your support, I have received heartfelt messages from many of you during these uncertain times. We have been working closely with our partner, Visit Cook County, as we considered the different scenarios and alternatives that would allow us to safely produce the 2020 Stages Cycling Lutsen 99er.
Please see below message from our host community:
“We regret to inform you that Visit Cook County (VCC) and its board of directors has canceled the Lutsen 99er scheduled for June 27, 2020.
From 80 riders in its inaugural year to nearly 1800 riders a quick nine years later, the 99er has become part of the Cook County fabric. Our community is proud to be associated with this event – our amazing volunteers, local folks lining back roads cheering riders and the family of riders that joins us every year.
Because of what this event brings to our community, the decision to cancel was difficult. On the other-hand, we believe this is the right decision in light of our rural community, our razor thin medical resources and yet uncertainties and unknowns that remain with this pandemic and the gathering of many people.
We look forward to hosting the event June 26, 2021.”
We are providing all 2020 registered riders with the following three options, to be selected by May 31st:
1. Defer your entry to the 2021 event (June 26th, 2021) at no additional cost.
2. Transfer your registration to Chequamegon Mountain Bike Festival presented by Trek, September 19th, 2020 at no additional cost.
a. If you are already signed up for 2020 Chequamegon Bike Festival presented by Trek you will need to select options 1 or 3.
3. Receive a 70% refund off your registration fee, minus processing fees.

We are truly heartbroken to not be hosting you this June, and we cannot just sit back and do nothing… So, in celebration of the area and your 99er enthusiasm, and in partnership with a few of our great local sponsors (Fika Coffee and Visit Cook County), we are excited to announce the 2020 Stages Cycling Lutsen 99er Lone Wolf Challenge!
What the hell is the Lone Wolf Challenge? Well, in the beginning of June our 99er team will mark the 25er, 49er, 69er and 99er courses, and from June 5th to July 12th each of you will have the opportunity to head up to Cook County yourself and independently ride our course. Then, after a sweet ride in the Northwoods, stop into Fika Coffee in Lutsen with proof of your completion (GPS data, a dirty bike and/or a smile is acceptable) and pick up a free commemorative 2020 Lutsen 99er gift made by Wolf Tooth Components. Follow our social media channels or watch your inbox for future updates as well.

The Lutsen 99er movement continues, high above the shores of beautiful Lake Superior. This 99-mile course (69-, 49- and 25-mile options also offered) takes advantage of the scenery and topography of Minnesota’s North Shore.
We will start at Lutsen Ski Resort, in Minnesota’s Sawtooth Mountains overlooking majestic Lake Superior, as we begin a fantastic Category 3 climb. Once over the ridgeline, the course takes advantage of the glacially sculpted terrain, rolling hills, and numerous lakes and streams at the southern range of the Boreal Forest. You will be riding on sections of road and trail that see as much moose traffic as people traffic at any given time.
The Cascade Vacation Rentals Niner Kid Races will also be held, make the Lutsen 99er a family affair!
