2020 Octoberfest is cancelled - join us 10.16.21 for the 10th Anniversary!

New Date: October 16, 2021

Octoberfest participants!

It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel the Octoberfest Race for this year!  We were hoping to be a bright light and give the community and participants something to look forward to enjoying in person, but even at this time, everything is just too unknown and there are too many what ifs.  We want to protect the health and wellness of the community and our participants.  We tried our absolute best to hold out in hopes we could have a different outcome, but we must take the safest route.

With it being our 10th Anniversary and having so many exciting and new things planned we don't feel a virtual race would suffice.

We'll be back next year to celebrate with all of you the 10th Anniversary (My Lord we sure hope!)!  =)

On a bright note, we have an extra year to plan and get things ready for the best Octoberfest to date!  Make sure you join us on 10.16.21

Thanks for the past 9 years to the Peru Fire Department, our community, participants, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who helps behind the scenes.

Be well - we'll miss you all!!

Description

Saturday, October 17th, 2020 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Octoberfest Half Marathon, 5K, 10K & 40K Bike in Peru, NY

Runners and walkers will enjoy an exhilarating run or walk through the Town of Peru & Peru's Apple Country while viewing the beautiful Adirondacks fall foliage. Bikers will enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Champlain as well as Peru's Apple Country. There will be a FREE post race party following the race with entertainment, food/drinks and FREE COLD BEER!

The Octoberfest Event is an annual event in Peru, NY to raise awareness and money to help the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation find a cure.

The Octoberfest Event is in memory of Robert “Chip” Hamilton, a local business man in the North Country owning the Hamilton Funeral Home of Peru, Keeseville, and Mooers. He was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2008.

Over time, Chip's ability to do daily tasks became very limited. He would become short of breath with simple tasks, like brushing his teeth, answering the phone, and walking just a few steps. He relied increasingly on his portable oxygen tank.

In 2010, Ruth Hamilton LaClair began the Octoberfest Event while her father, Chip was in Pittsburgh, PA recovering from a lung transplant. After spending 4 months in the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and his loving wife, Patti spending 4 months in a hotel with wonderful family and friends visiting, Chip succumbed to his IPF from complications with the lung transplant on January 27, 2011.

Through the help and strength of family and friends, Ruth has continued the event each year in his memory.

Thank you to all who continue to support and celebrate with us!

There will be limited items available to purchase such as t-shirts, hats, gloves & magnets for sale. Please check the vendor table at the race.
