The James Island Connector Run (JICR) provides one of the most scenic race routes in the Southeast and one of the most challenging courses in the Lowcountry! Overlooking the beautiful Ashley River and the historic downtown peninsula of Charleston, this 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk (the 5K course has changed this year to an out and back course) goes across the James Island Connector. The post-race festival is held at Cannon Park and includes Refreshments, Music, Beer Garden, and kids zone. Race starts at 8:30am.
The top 5 male and female finishers for the 10K and 5K Run will receive cash awards. The top prize will be $250; 2nd place, $150; 3rd place, $100; 4th place, $75; and 5th place, $50. First place male and female Master and Grandmaster in the 10K and 5K will receive $100. The top 3 male and female finishers in each age group of the 10K and 5K running category will also receive an award. $100 Course Record Bonus For Each Race M/F
The Charleston James Island Connector Run benefits the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation, a local charity that awards annual scholarships to students with physical disabilities at in the Lowcountry. To date, the GKF has awarded more than 165 scholarships to students with disabilities at the College of Charleston, Charleston Southern University, the Citadel, Trident Technical College and the Art Institute of Charleston. The Charleston Running Club is excited to announce that beginning in 2019, they will be hosting this amazing event! After 20 years of the James Island Connector Run raising funds for the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation, the Charleston Running Club is proud to continue this great tradition for an amazing cause.
Since 1977 the Charleston Running Club has been promoting running in the local running community. Early on the Club was instrumental in starting two of the area's largest races, the Cooper River Bridge Run and the Kiawah Marathon and currently serves on the board of the Cooper River Bridge Run. The Charleston Running Club host the Charlie Post Classic 15K/5K in January, the Floppin’ Flounder 5K and Open and Masters Track Classic in June, and the Bohicket Half and 5K in November.
Proceeds from these other events go to support the Charlie Post Scholarship Fund, the Sullivan's Island Fire & Rescue Department and the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club and the operation of our 100% volunteer operated club for the purpose of the promotion, encouragement, organization and education of running and running activities for sport, recreation, competition and health in the local community.

CAN I REGISTER BY MAIL?
No, all registrations must be completed online. However, walk up registrations will be available on race day until 8:30 am
CAN I REGISTER ON RACE DAY?
Yes, you can register on race day until 8:30 am however runner’s swag bag and/or runner’s shirts are on a first come first serve basis for race day registrations.
CAN I CHANGE MY RACE DISTANCE?
Yes, you may change your race distance online through Saturday, October 21, 2019 at 11:59 pm. Click here and on the James Island Connector Run, "Manage Registration" to change your race distance online.
WHAT IS THE REFUND POLICY?
The James Island Connector Run adheres to standard running industry policy which dictate that registration fees are non-refundable. However, you may transfer your registration to another runner in the same or shorter run distance for a $10.00 fee. Click here and on the James Island Connector Run, click "Manage Registration" to transfer your registration. All transfers must be done before October 25, 2019 at 11:59 PM. You may not transfer your number to another runner for any reason without notifying the James Island Connector Run on the link provided. IS THERE A TIME LIMIT FOR THE 10K?
Yes, all runners must be cleared from James Island Connector Run within 2.0 hours of the start. Runners finishing after 2.0 hours may not receive an official time.
HOW MANY RUNNERS ARE EXPECTED?
We expect approximately 1000 runners in the 10K and 600 runners in the 5K for 2019
ARE T-SHIRTS INCLUDED IN THE REGISTRATION FEE?
Yes, gender specific shirt will be available for the runners who register for the race before October 4, 2019. We cannot guarantee shirts for those that register after that date.
ARE AWARDS BASED ON GUN TIME OR CHIP TIME?
Overall awards are based on gun time and age group awards are based on chip time.
WHAT IF IT RAINS OR THERE IS A BAD WEATHER EVENT?
Both runs will take place rain or shine. There will be no weather-related refunds. The event can be cancelled if the Race Committee determines the course is unsafe due to poor weather conditions.
ARE WALKERS, STROLLERS OR DOGS ALLOWED?
Walkers and strollers are allowed in the 5k and in the 10K. Both must start at the back and must be off the course in 2.0 Hours.
ARE THE COURSES CERTIFIED?
Yes, both the 10K and the 5K are USATF certified
WILL RACE PACKETS BE MAILED?
Race packets will not be mailed but can be picked up at packet pick-up.
WHERE DO I PARK FOR THE RACES?
Parking will be provided along the street and in two fields near the start line. Please be mindful of runners if leaving early.
WHAT IS THE COURSE ELEVATION?
The highest course elevation is no more that 40 feet. The course is across several bodies of water so expect a hill style event.
CAN I SIGN UP TO BE A VOLUNTEER?

IS THERE A POST RACE CEREMONY?
Yes, there will be a post-race awards ceremony at 9:45 for the 5K and 10:15 for the 10K
WHAT AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN
Awards for overall finishers, masters, grand masters and senior grand masters and age group awards from 14 and under to 80 and above in 5-year age groups.
CAN I PICK UP ANOTHER RUNNERS PACKET?
Yes, you may pick up another runner’s packet.
CAN I DROP MY BAG OFF AT THE START / PICK UP AFTER THE RACE?
Items may not be left unattended during the event.
IS THE JAMES ISLAND CONNECTOR RUN FOR CHARITABLE PURPOSES?
Yes, the race raises fund for the Gavalas Kolanko Foundation.
