Description

Round 1 of the 2018 Insurance for Texans Gravel Series. Series winners will be crowned Gravel King and Gravel Queen for 2018.

THE FASTEST 100K ON GRAVEL! No license required.

The Texas Chainring Massacre is a full on gravel grinder featuring a unique combination of dirt roads and desolate country roads that promises to be both scenic and challenging. Riders will be able to enjoy a fantastic route that starts and ends in the "civilized" part of the D/FW Metroplex near Valley View, TX while meandering through some scenic rural areas.

100K Dash For the Cash - This marked course ride will provide neutral aid/support station at approximately the half way point but no outside support is allowed except at the aid station. Plan to bring enough food and supplies to be self supported in case of break down since it might take several hours for a sweep/sag vehicle to reach stranded riders. Cash payout 3 deep and Series Points awarded.

All roads whether paved or unpaved are public roads subject to the regulations of the great State of Texas. Participants are required to obey all "rules of the road" and laws for the applicable jurisdiction(s) in which they operate their bicycles and/or other vehicles. This applies to both the featured event as well as any practice or warm up events. The Texas Chainring Massacre is an all-weather event unless conditions are deemed unsafe for riders so there is a no refunds policy.

Promoter may modify the course at any time for rider safety or based on course conditions.

100 Mile Open - The classic long distance gravel grinder. This will be a marked course with neutral support at least every 33 miles. Cash payout 3 deep and Series Points awarded.

100K Category races by age/discipline. Awards 3 deep, no cash payout. Series points awarded.

Non Competitive Fun Ride - Multiple distance options for everyone from the complete beginner to the all day wanderers. Ideal for those newer to gravel grinding and/or those who want some bonus time hanging out in Valley View and the Whiskey Hollow Distillery.

Gravel King/Gravel Queen Series Points Quick Outline
Series points are awarded in a unique format that takes into account finishing position, size of field as well as the overall distance of the event. This format is built to favor those who put in the long grind consistently and through all conditions. Points are potentially calculated two different ways per event, Overall and Category specific. The series will always use whichever calculation is most advantageous to an individual racer for any single event.

Category Specific points are determined in the specific race that you enter. A high finish in a category could make this a more beneficial calculation.

Overall points are determined by combining results of all categories for a specific distance into an overall results tabulation. The "larger field" bonus might make this more advantageous to mid pack finishers in the overall results.

Race distance is a factor in calculating series points so the longer distance events will receive a "mileage bonus" which will still allow longer races with smaller fields to still accrue series points in line with a shorter event with a larger field.

Hosts and Sponsors - More info soon but the town of Valley View and Whiskey Hollow Distillerywill be going above and beyond to roll out the red carpet for us so stay tuned for details!

Also, Cantu Cycling Wheels will be giving away TWO sets of wheels at the end of the Insurance For Texans Gravel King/Gravel Queen series in 2018. One wheelset will be awarded to a random male participant, another to a random female participant. Every series event you enter adds an entry to the drawing.

Enter one series event = one entry. 10 series events = 10 entries. Pretty sweet!

Gravel King & Gravel Queen Series Points Guide

The Insurance for Texans Race Series is points based series designed to crown a Gravel King and Gravel Queen at the end of the 2018 racing series.

Points are earned on a per event basis and are weighted towards mileage, finishing position and depth of field. Generally speaking, points earned will almost always be highest for longer distance events. The exception would be for a top finishing position in a very large field for a shorter distance. Potential points earned and point caps will be published for each event but there are no guarantees of points awards until the field is final on day of event.

We plan to have at least 10 Series races in 2018 but only the best 4 points finishes are utilized to compute overall points standings so riders are Crown eligible with only four Series events entered. Points contenders will also be allowed bonus points from a fifth Wild Card event. The Wild Card event will either be repeated use of the best finish in a previous Series event or point generated from an approved event from outside our Series. More details on Wild Card computations will be shared as the season moves along.

Projected Points:

100 Mile Open (based on 100 entries): 210 for 1st, 120 for 10th, points awarded for all finishing positions
100K Open (based on 100 entries): 174 for 1st, 84 for 10th. points awarded for all finishing positions
