Description
Champion is both a noun and a verb. This event is meant for those who want to share their love of unpaved bicycle riding adventures.
The 85 and 110 mile timed options are considered as qualifier events for the 2025 Privateer Invitational Gravel Race. Top riders in age/gender groups (TBD) as well as those who beat a specific cutoff time (TBD) will earn invitations.
Primo gravel not far from home for those in DFW/Waco/Austin. Likely worth the stretch even for those a bit further out. Marked routes with after ride food and drink for all. Free for Club Spinistry members. Group camping spots are limited so signup early!
Staging from Lofer's Bend West Day Use area along the shores of Lake Whitney. Lots of camping nearby but reserve a spot early if that is your plan. Routes from 27 to 100+ miles. 100 milers will start as an early group with all other distances starting together a bit later.
Distance options of 27, 44, 53, 62, 85 and 110 miles (pending route verification). Recognition of achievement will be based on registrations one week prior to event date. Minimum recognitions of Top 3 Overall + Top Female. Additional age/gender recognition may be added based on signups.
This event is considered self supported except for the neutral water tables available to all. No handups or on course support allowed. Riders are expected to adhere to the Texas Traffic Code. Riders will need to make their own transportation arrangements if unable to complete the course for any reason. We will NOT be able to provide SAG support.
200 mile bikepacking option includes Friday and Saturday night camping based on 100ish miles per day.
IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT info for racers at Spinistry events!!!
Thanks to our friend Dylan Johnson doing the math it is now a REQUIREMENT that all riders properly mount their number plates or be subject to a time penalty.
Proper mounting is on the bar or cables, facing forward with the numbers clearly visible. No wrapping on the head tube, no sticking in a pocket or bag, no mounting sideways on frame or fork.
Time penalty for an improperly mounted number plate is the greater of 5 minutes per 100 miles (5 minute minimum for shorter distances) or however long it takes us to chase down and identify a racer with an incorrectly mounted number.
We will continue to allow comfort/aero/gravel bars for all riders since that is an aero benefit available to all that more than offsets the number plate penalty.
This is considered a mass start time trial. Timing is for training and reference purposes. Drafting is permitted. Ebikes are permitted but will not receive a time. We ask that ebike riders NOT lead bridging efforts of others,
Entry fee covers a trial membership to Club Spinistry for those who are not current members. Fee can be applied towards a full membership within 7 days of the completion of this event.
