Join us for our 34th Year! The YMCA Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day tradition that attracts runners of all ages and abilities to Fredericksburg, VA each year. Run or walk the 5K course through scenic downtown Fredericksburg! Kids can get in on the fun by joining a parent in the 5K or running the 1-mile race. All finishers will receive a medal!
There's also a 1/4 Mile Tot Trot held on Wednesday, November 25th at 4pm on the JMHS track. Your littlest trotters (ages 5 and under) can race the day before the main Turkey Trot!
Proceeds raised support Rappahannock Area YMCA programs that empower youth, improve community health, and ensure affordable access for all.

All Awards will be mailed to Overall and Age Group winners.
Overall Winners will be based on Gun Time. Age Group winners will be based on Chip Time.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO RACE DAY packet pick up available in 2026. ALL packets and race bib numbers must be picked up on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Family members/friends may pick up for others in their family/group. Please have their registration information available at packet pick up.
5K Wave Information
Due to the size of the 5K race, we will be starting in waves. Wave 1 - Under 35 Minutes, Wave 2 - 35-45 Minutes, Wave 3 - Over 45 Minutes.
If you want to start in the same wave as your friends or family be sure to enter the same estimated finish time for each runner and select the same wave. Please use the estimated finish time of the slowest runner in your group.

Registration for the Tot Trot will likely open in June - stay tuned for more details!
The Tot Trot will be held on the JMHS Track on WEDNESDAY at 4pm. This 1/4 Mile race is for our tiniest trotters ages 5 and under.
A parent is permitted to be on the track with their child.

Parking at JMHS on race morning is NOT available. It's recommended that you review parking information and determine your parking plan before race day. Give yourself an additional 15-20 minutes on race day to walk from your parking location to James Monroe High School.

No, dogs are not permitted on the race course, so please leave your furry friends at home!
Yes, we ask that all runners and walkers complete the race by 9am. This allows for 1 hour and 20 minutes for the last wave.

Yes, you can have a friend or family member pick up your race packet for you. Sending them with your registration confirmation email is very helpful.

No, we do not have gear check, so please keep all of your personal items in your vehicles.
Yes, there's one water station on the 5K course.
Restrooms are available in James Monroe High School and porta potties will be available in the JMHS parking lot. There are no porta potties on the course.
Yes, all Tot Trot, 1 Mile and 5K finishers will receive a medal. All registrants who register before the t-shirt deadline will also be guaranteed a race t-shirt. We will order extra t-shirts, so if you see your size available on the race registration site when you register, you'll be good to go!
If your child is 4 years old or younger, one parent is permitted on the course during the mile race. We ask that you start in the back of the wave. For children 5 and older, parents can run on the sidewalk that parallels the race course. Parents, please stay out of the way of the other children who are running and be extra cautious on the course.
Yes! Please start in the back of your starting wave with the other stroller participants and use extra caution on the course.
No, that child does not need to be registered. They will not be given a race bib or a race t-shirt because they're not registered.
Yes, we ask that all athletes on the course are officially registered for the 5K.
