The announcer's assistants will spot runners' bib numbers, access runners' information and relay information to the announcer. Volunteers must be able to work at altitude, be prepared for extreme conditions and must work the entire shift.

Start Line Assistants

Details

As the runners are anxiously awaiting for the start of the race, start line assistants will help direct and organize the runners into waves. Volunteers will also assist the wave sign holders by ensuring the waves of runners move forward towards the start line as the start of the race progresses.

Volunteers will also assist in the set up/take down of the start line barricades and the posting of sponsor banners.

Details

As a member of the start line team, volunteers will hold signs for wave starts along the starting line. Volunteers will also assist the start line assistants by ensuring the waves of runners move forward towards the start line as the start of the race progresses.

Details

Runners need to be well hydrated throughout the race. Volunteers are needed to set-up and prepare for water and Skratch distribution.They will fill cups and/or fill water bottles for the runners before the start of the race. After cheering on the runners, volunteers will be responsible for cleanup of the area.

Details

As a courtesy to race participants, the event offers gear check service to all registered athletes. Responsibilities of these volunteers include collecting runners' gear bags, ensuring bags are labeled with runners' bib numbers and securely closed. Bags will then be loaded into vehicles for transport to the summit.

Once the bags are on the summit, volunteers will organize and distribute them as runners complete the race. Volunteers may also be asked to assist in other areas.

Since sweat check at the finish line is located at 14,115 feet elevation, volunteers should be acclimated to the altitude as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Light lifting may be required and the work area may be rocky and uneven. Volunteers must commit to their entire shift. Transportation to the summit is provided (personal vehicles are not allowed to be driven to the summit).

Details

Volunteers will enthusiastically greet runners and observe them as they cross the finish line, providing assistance to sit down or to walk to the medical area, if needed. Volunteers will also present the runners with their finisher medals. Set up and take down/cleanup of the area are also included in their responsibilities.

The position may require light lifting and volunteers may be working on rocky and uneven ground. Volunteers may also be asked to assist in other areas. Since the finish line is located at 14,115 feet elevation, volunteers should be acclimated to the altitude as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Summit parking attendants will direct race spectators with Ascent specific parking passes to the designated Ascent spectator parking area. They will also direct public visitors with their 2-hour reservation passes to their specific parking area. The responsibilities of the summit guides include directing spectators, tourists, and the general public to specific areas to cheer on the runners. Guides will have a front row seat to watching runners finish and will also provide information and direct runners from the finish line area to the vans which will shuttle the runners down to the Glen Cove aid station. Details

The Expo festivities include the presence of vendors and sponsors who contribute to a celebratory atmosphere before and after the race. Vendor and sponsor support volunteers will monitor parking spots reserved for unloading/loading before and after the Expo. They will also assist vendors and sponsors in unloading and moving supplies to their assigned booth location.

Upon arrival at Memorial Park after completion of their race, runners will be anxious to pick up their finisher item and enjoy food and drink at the Expo. Details

Runners need to rehydrate and re-energize after their race. Volunteers will set up the prep and service area, provide hydration and nutrition and serve food to the runners upon their return to Memorial Park. The area will also need to be taken down/cleaned up after the event.

Details

Runners will be looking forward to celebrating their accomplishment with a cold beer. Beer Garden volunteers will be responsible for checking runners' wristbands, checking ID's and assist in distributing beer. Volunteers will also be responsible for take down and clean up of the area.

Radio Status Keeper

Details

Radio Status Keeper will manage the incoming radio calls from aid stations to report on-course runner status. Volunteers in this position must be able to communicate on a radio (training to be provided) and keep documentation of information coming in on a computer spreadsheet.

Documentation will include capturing bib numbers of runners who have turned around willingly, due to not making the cutoff time, or for medical issues.

Volunteers will be handing out pre-purchased parking passes for the Pikes Peak Summit and Devils Playground. Spectators or runners will be picking up these parking passes for access to the Pikes Peak Summit on Saturday, September 21, 2024.

Details

Volunteers are needed to assist with printing runner results cards. This is a free service to runners and new for 2024! Volunteers will be stationed at a printing kiosk to print a results card for runners and congratulate them on their accomplishment. Be a part of the post race party!

Details

This aid station is located approximately 1.9 trail miles up from the Barr Trail trailhead. All volunteers must be physically capable of hiking up Barr Trail (not the Incline) with a portion of Skratch and associated supplies as well as carrying appropriate personal clothing. Here, they will provide hydration and encouragement to the runners. At the end of the day, trash must be carried back down the mountain.

This aid station is a 6.5 mile hike up Barr Trail from the trailhead. Volunteers must be able to work at high altitude, hike in and out of the aid station as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Tasks will include supplying hydration and nutrition for runners as well as showing cheerful support.

Due to time required to set up and clean up the aid station, volunteers must be fully committed from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.

This aid station is located at 12,000 feet and three miles from the summit of Pikes Peak. Volunteers must be able to work at high altitude, hike in and out of the aid station, as well as be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions. Tasks will include supplying hydration and nutrition for runners and showing cheerful support.

Due to time required to set-up and clean up the aid station, volunteers must be fully committed from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.

Volunteers are needed to provide runners with water, Skratch, snack items and show cheerful support to the runners.

This aid station is located approximately 1.3 trail miles down from the Summit, at an elevation of 13,200 feet. All volunteers must be physically capable of hiking down the trail with a portion of food and associated supplies as well as carrying appropriate personal clothing and supplies.Volunteers must also be prepared for possible extreme and changing weather conditions.

At the end of the day, trash must be carried back to the Summit. Assistance with hose removal may be requested.

Transportation to the summit is provided (personal vehicles are not allowed to be driven to the summit). Volunteers need to commit to their entire shift.

Drivers are responsible for transporting volunteers and supplies to and from various mountain locations.
