You will be assigned a route to check. Ideally you would work in teams, but can be done solo. Drive the course, navigating with GPS, and verify that all turns (both above ground signage and painted arrows) are in place. Replace any signs that have been knocked over or tampered with.

Large Sign Placement Medium Priority

Place the large metal signs on roads at locations to be determined.

Packet Pickup - Friday Afternoon High Priority

Packet Pickup will be held at the Sherman Athletic Club. Greet registered riders and get their packet for them. Distribute t-shirts. Answer questions.

We will be selling event t-shirts, jerseys and SBC-branded items at packet pickup. Volunteer will staff the merchandise display and use Square to sell merchandise.

We will be selling CCC-branded t-shirts and jerseys during the ride, as well as SBC-branded merchandise. Volunteer will staff the display and sell items using Square.

Course Marshall - Sherman High Priority

Details

Course Marshalls will assist riders as they leave the Sherman Athletic Club and make their way through the village of Sherman to the bike trail. You will wear a safety vest and direct riders where to turn. There will be a police presence on the main road to alert traffic to the presence of the cyclists.

Rest Stop Captain High Priority

Details

Your job will be to keep in touch with the volunteers at each of the three rest stop to handle any restocking needs. You will pick up supplies at the Sherman Athletic Club and deliver them to the rest stops as needed.

The afternoon coordinator will bring rest stop supplies back to the Sherman Athletic Club when the rest stop is shut down.

A van will be provided, or you may use your own vehicle and be reimbursed for mileage.

Rest Stop #1 - Attendant - Williamsville High Priority

Details

Williamsville Community Park is the first rest stop on the route and all five routes pass by this stop. We plan to serve pancakes and bacon at this stop, as well as more traditional nutrition. A griddle will be provided for cooking.

Rest Stop #2 - Middletown Community Park

Details

Middletown Community Park is Rest Stop #2. The 62- and 100-miler riders pass through this rest stop. We do have a local couple who will set up a grill and cook quesadillas, grilled cheese, etc. They could use some help keeping up with demand.

Rest Stop #3 - Elkhart - Attendant

Details

Our third rest stop will be in the village of Elkhart, IL at the Elkhart Christian Church. Your task will be to keep hydration and nutrition stocked. A grill will be set up to grill hotdogs and keep that going. Afternoon shifts will assist in teardown of the rest stop.

SAG Captain High Priority

Details

The SAG coordinator will serve as dispatch for the crew of SAG drivers. You will be stationed at a central location on the course and assist in getting help to riders as quickly as possible. You may be called upon to provide rider assistance as well.

SAG Driver High Priority

September 14, 2024

Details

As a SAG driver, you will assist cyclists who need mechanical assistance. SAG drivers will drive a designated route, navigating with GPS.
You will be given a supply of CO2, tire tubes, a pump and a first aid kit to use.
The most common task will be changing a flat tire. You will also carry a supply of water bottles and nutrition for riders who are in need. If a rider is unable to continue, you will assist in transporting the rider back to the Sherman Athletic Club.
A vehicle with a bike rack is essential for this role.
The ability to navigate via GPS is helpful.
SAG drivers will receive direction from the SAG captain.

Remove Route Signs - All routes

Details

Starting at noon (once all riders are out on course), drive the course and pull above-ground signage. This is a good chance to sweep the course and look for riders who may need assistance.

Meal Assistant at Sherman Athletic Club

Details

Your role will be to make sure that tables are wiped down, trash picked up and the dining area kept clean during the post-ride meal.
