On-Course Crew

Swim Course counter Low Priority

At least 2 more volunteers needed.

Details

Swim counters are responsible for maintaining an accurate count of the number of laps that each swimmer assigned to her/his lane has completed. After an athlete has completed the correct number of laps based on the race they are competing in, the swim counter may assist by directing them to the exit doors from the pool to the transition area.

Bike Course marshal High Priority

At least 8 more volunteers needed.

Details

Bike marshals are one of the Tri-Fecta’s most important volunteer positions. Volunteers here are assigned to a specific geographic location/intersection along the bike course route and are tasked with directing & cheering on athletes as they cycle the course. These volunteers also serve as the event’s “eyes and ears” on-course and need to report back to race HQ (by phone or radio by using the emergency contact card) if an athlete has made a wrong turn, sustains an injury, or can no longer continue racing. Depending on the assigned post that a course marshal receives, bike course volunteers may wish to bike or drive to her/his assigned post. Bike course marshals must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult 18+. These volunteers will be asked to collect all directional race signage on a specific section of the race course at the conclusion of the event on her/his way back to race HQ.

Run Course marshal Low Priority

Transition Area High Priority

At least 5 more volunteers needed.

Details

The transition area is where athletes move between legs of the race (i.e. swim to bike and bike to run). Volunteers will be stationed between the exit of the pool facility & along the route to transition area. Volunteers stationed inside the transition area are tasked with supporting each athlete as they set up her/his equipment (bikes, helmets, shoes, etc.) at her/his assigned rack space. Volunteers at the dedicated entry/exit points inside the transition area also need to check each athlete’s body marking race number to ensure it matches her/his run bib & bike plate. Once the race begins, transition volunteers will stand at the entrance and exit to ensure athletes are following triathlon guidelines/rules (dismounting, mounting, helmets buckled, etc.).

Course sweep Medium Priority

At least 2 more volunteers needed.

Details

The course sweep is responsible for ‘sweeping’ or following the last athlete in each race along both the bike & run courses. This volunteer’s role is to make sure that no athlete passes behind them while completing the course by way of bicycle. Alongside course marshals, this volunteer also serves as the event’s “eyes and ears” on-course and need to report back to race HQ (by phone or radio by using the emergency contact card) if an athlete has made a wrong turn, sustains an injury, or can no longer continue racing.

Finish Line High Priority

At least 3 more volunteers needed.

Details

This is where athletes finish their races! Finish line volunteers will help setup the finish line area, finish chute fencing, arch, tents, etc. They also encourage athletes to continue moving in order to clear the finish line for incoming athletes. Some GVL Tri-Fecta races will have finisher medals, so volunteers here will be responsible for distributing these as well. Volunteers will be asked to breakdown equipment & clean up trash at the finish area once the final athlete has completed his/her race.

Details
