Wetsuits and open water swim buoys are preferred and encouraged in all Divisions.

To ensure a high level of safety, the event features lifeguard stationed along the course (as well as the support of the Police Water Patrol).  In addition, kayak and paddleboard support teams patrol the swim course, providing guidance, monitoring swimmer progress, and offering immediate assistance if needed. The swim event date was pushed back to June 6th to provide swimmers warmer water temperatures, average water temperature at this time is 74 degrees.

Before the event, swimmers receive a brief safety orientation covering sighting, course layout, and emergency procedures.  Throughout the event, support staff communicate to maintain constant coverage and quick response capability.
