1 Mile Fun Walk (In Person)
Description
What a great way to start any 4th of July and to support northern Wisconsin area veterans or veteran organizations! This race checks the boxes for an outdoor 5K run or 1-mile fun run/walk in the north woods. Enjoying time with your friends and family! Having fun! Getting your smile on! And a great way to help area veterans. Join us for this morning adventure.
We have two events--the 5K trail run or a 1-mile fun run/walk. Both events take place at the MECCA trail system in Mercer, Wisconsin on July 4.
Purpose
Your contributions, participation, donations and generosity support those courageous individuals who make the sacrifice for the sake of freedom. This year’s primary charity is the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. The Never Forgotten Honor Flight is a Not-For-Profit Organization providing Veterans with gratitude, respect, and/or closure by flying them to Washington D.C. to visit their memorials. The Never Forgotten Honor Flight hub serving Mercer, Iron County is out of Wausau. Monetary donations will go toward the cost of sponsoring a selected veteran (from within the Never Forgotten’s application list) from the hub area. Priority is given to terminally ill veterans; followed by veterans serving before May 7, 1975. This trip is free for the veteran!
Additional proceeds may be given to Northwoods Veteran’s Homestead.
This event is hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary Post 424 - Northern Lakes, Mercer. We are a 501(c)19, a post, auxiliary organization.

We have opportunities prior to July 3 (sponsorship team, racecourse prep), July 3rd (grab bag prep, racecourse and start/finish line prep) and day of race (registration, finish line, handouts, water station, post-race cleanup).

Signs are out for the RFAVRit event or MECCA Trails.
From HWY 51, turn south onto Beachway Drive (across from Marshfield Clinic). Veer left onto Mercer Lake Circle South. Continue straight onto Fierick Drive to Trail Cabin.
