In early June of 2027 we plan to be barreling down the gravel roads of Emporia, Kansas as participants in the Unbound Gravel bike race. Just as we rode (down a set of stairs) into our wedding reception years ago on our vintage tandem bicycle, we have opted to take on this Unbound journey on a slightly more enhanced gravel tandem — which we have aptly named...“The Marriage Counselor.”
We will be riding on behalf of the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF). CKF is a nonprofit that educates on the importance of organ, eye, tissue donation. The CKF has also teamed up with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to help take on blood cancer and promote stem cell donation. As a husband and wife tandem team, we will be the Foundation’s first and only tandem racers and we are so proud to represent them.
As many of our friends and family know, Sydney donated her own stem cells to her oldest brother after he was diagnosed with and treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia 5 years ago. After 2 donation cycles since his diagnosis, her brother is now cancer-free and living a beautiful, healthy life. As both nurses and cyclists, we see no greater honor than to fundraise for an organization like the Chris Klug Foundation.
CKF is making huge strides to educate people of all ages, with the goal of registering more individuals as organ donors across the United States, in the hopes of one day eliminating the wait for transplant nationwide. Please help us raise the very important funds they need to continue their lifesaving mission. 100% of your donation is tax-deductible and donations can be made via credit card or check. We have a combined fundraising goal of $5,000 to race in June and we appreciate any amount that you are able to give. Thank you all for supporting us and the Chris Klug Foundation!
