This coming June 2027, I’ll be riding my first century (100 miles) in the 2027 UNBOUND Gravel race in Emporia, Kansas. This alone would be super exciting, HOWEVER, I will be riding on a tandem bicycle with my husband Scott, AND riding on behalf of the Chris Klug Foundation (CKF). CKF is a nonprofit that educates on the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation. The CKF also has teamed up with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) to help take on blood cancer and promote stem cell donation. As a husband and wife tandem team, Scott and I will be the Foundation’s first and only tandem racers and we are so proud to represent them.
Stem cell donation is personal: as many people know, I have donated my own stem cells to my oldest brother after he was diagnosed with and treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia 5 years ago. After 2 donation cycles since his diagnosis, my brother is now cancer-free and living a beautiful, healthy life. As nurses and cyclists, Scott and I could see no greater honor than to fundraise for an organization like the Chris Klug Foundation.
CKF is making huge strides to educate people of all ages, with the goal of registering more individuals as organ donors across the United States, in the hopes of one day eliminating the wait for transplant nationwide. Please help Scott and me raise the very important funds they need to continue their lifesaving mission. 100% of your donation is tax-deductible and donations can be made via credit card or check. Scott and I have a combined fundraising goal of $5,000 to race in June and we appreciate any amount that you are able to give. Thank you all for supporting us and the Chris Klug Foundation!
