Description

Freewheelin’ Community Bikes will host its signature event, Nancy’s Ride on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2020 in the heart of Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood at 34th and Central Avenue. All ride proceeds will benefit Freewheelin’ Community Bikes, a 501(c)3 youth development organization that connects youth with skills for life over a shared passion for the bicycle.

What is Nancy’s Ride?

Nancy’s Ride, named in honor of founder Nancy Stimson, is a welcoming, inclusive ride for all cyclists with the goal of sharing Freewheelin’s love of supporting youth cycling. Fundraising is encouraged! Riders are invited to crowdsource additional support for their participation in the ride.

COVID-19 Notice

We will follow COVID-19 guidelines in effect at the time of the event. If “Stay at Home” orders are in place, the event will be cancelled. Virtual rides may be offered as an alternative.

Distance Rides

Nancy’s Ride is a welcoming, inclusive ride for all cyclists with the goal of sharing Freewheelin’s love of supporting youth cycling. This year the distance rides will consist of three circuits that will start and return to our Freewheelin’ Community Bike Shop where you can take a break, use the facilities, and have a snack.

The first 32.5 miles will take riders out to the beautiful Ft. Ben State Park. The second portion of the ride will be a 30 mile tour of Indianapolis urban neighborhoods.

Riders will visit Indianapolis Great Places including:

  • Maple Crossing near our Freewheelin home of Mapleton Fall Creek neighborhood,
  • King Commons west of the IUPUI campus,
  • River West near the Historic Flanner House,
  • Twin Aire on the southeast side of Indianapolis where there is much under development and
  • Englewood Villages on the Near Eastside.

The final leg (38 miles) will involve cycling out to the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Destination Ride

The family-oriented Destination Ride (10K, or 6.2 miles) will start later in the morning and will follow the planned Neighbor Ways routes that the city will be building soon. Stops will include one Great Place and other unique attractions.

After the ride, join us for music, and a meal (included for registered participants). Scholarships are available for the Destination Ride by contacting info@freewheelinbikes.org

Ride with us now!

To prepare for these rides, Freewheelin’ will offer every Saturday morning Community Rides and Century Training Rides all summer long. These rides will be led by experienced guides. If you need a bike, new fleet bikes are available for use at no cost.  These rides will follow segments of the actual planned rides.
