So...why am I doing this?
 
Everyone has been affected by cancer. Survivors, current fighters, caregivers and healthcare workers, those who have lost loved ones to this terrible illness. I lost my maternal grandfather to cancer in my early teens. He was a professional civil surveyor and an early adopter of AutoCAD. If not for cancer, I would have spent my summers in college living with him and working in his office as a project engineering apprentice. He would have taught me how to survey and how to develop professional connections that last a lifetime. He never got the opportunity to go to college to become a professional engineer like he had always wanted to, but he had the most wonderful family and a house full of great memories. Now, I am an engineer for a firm that designs and builds the laboratories and manufacturing facilities that research, develop, and produce life-saving treatments to diseases like cancer. My grandfather would have loved to hear me talk about the exciting projects that I'm working on--and commisserate with me on the frustrations of AutoCAD. He probably would have cried at my graduation from engineering school, he was such a sentimental family man who laughed hard and loved harder. 
 
I have lost other family members and friends to cancer since my grandfather. I am doing this ride for them, and committing to the fight against cancer by partnering with the American Cancer Society. I am honored to be doing this ride with my coworkers at CRB and I hope you will consider donating to my fundraiser and following me on my journey!
