Description

Renata Schalk was an amazing soul, with a unique and infectious personality and called the WILDCARD of her family. All who came across her couldn't help but walk away with a smile on their face. Tragically, Renata was killed by a careless driver, while doing one of her favorite things, walking. She adored her family, her chickens, her God, reading (including textbooks), and caroling at Christmas in what was dubbed ""Renaltissimo."  She was a storyteller, a purple aster in a sea of daisies, standing out amongst the crowd. Her light continues to shine through her family and friends through her laughter and smile. Renata was a Christian indeed, serving her Lord Jesus Christ and testifying to His saving and keeping power throughout her lifetime. Her words led many others to deeper relationships with Jesus Christ, and her works of compassion and kindness are remembered by all who were touched by her.

This race/walk is in her memory, as when she walked or biked, she did so at top speed. All money raised will go to a charity, near and dear to Renata's heart and has close ties with the community: Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO).

LACO is a non-profit organization, founded in 1985 from the efforts of several area churches. It continues to be sponsored by 12 churches of various denominations located in Lisbon, Durham and Bowdoin, communities. They are administered by an all-volunteer Board of Directors that provides leadership and decision making for the organization. Members of the board include clergy, parishioners and community members. LACO is supported by the Towns of  Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon through donations from the towns, many individuals, organizations, and churches. LACO also receives support through matching grants and the assistance of Good Shepherd Food Bank.  In addition, LACO operates a food pantry  in Lisbon. The Food Pantry  serves 1,867 people a month to prevent hunger.

We are also launching a t-shirt fundraiser in conjunction with the race fundraiser.  This shirt would be great to wear during your race.  The campaign lasts for 2 weeks at the end of which, all t-shirts will be sent out in a batch.  The buyer has the option to have the shirt sent directly to them for a shipping fee or sent to a local in Maine for free - where any shirts received will be distributed.  At the end of the two weeks, we can launch an additional campaign for another two weeks.  The shirts are only mailed out when the campaign is over to keep printing costs down. The shirts are $20 and  the proceeds are set to be mailed in a check to LACO directly in memory of Renata.
