FAQs

Do you provide refunds?

Entry fees will not be refunded under any circumstances.

How does a track relay work?

A relay team consists of four people. Each person runs an assigned distance, or leg, while carrying a metal baton. When they complete their leg, they hand the baton to the next member of the relay in a designated exchange zone. Example: in a 4 × 400 m relay, every member of the team runs one lap around the track, handing off the baton to the next member at the end of each lap.

Do we need to bring a baton?

Batons will be provided, but bringing your own couldn't hurt if you would like to.

What relays will be included at Rose City Relays?

We plan to include the 4 × 800 m relay, the distance medley relay (1200-400-800-1600), and the Swedish relay (100-200-300-400). If you want to run a different relay distance, please contact us or pick a different distance during registration. We aim to offer the relay options that generate the most excitement.

Will the meet be timed?

The meet will be hand-timed. We encourage but do not require every relay team to bring a fifth member to serve as the backup timer for their team to guarantee that every team gets a time.

How do I form a team?

Just find four people (including yourself) who would like to run a relay and invite them to join you. All four relay team members will need to sign up for the meet and sign the waivers, but only the first person to register needs to pay the entry fee ($22.20).

During the registration process the first relay team member to register should choose the option "create a new relay team" on the step immediately after signing the waivers. After selecting "create a new relay team," follow these steps:

  1. Give your team a name.
  2. Set a password to share with your three teammates so they can join your team.
  3. Pay the complete $22.20 entry fee for your team
  4. Invite your other three team members to join your team, providing them with the team name and password.

The next three team members will not have to pay an entry fee. On the step immediately after signing they waivers, they should choose "join an existing relay team" and then follow these steps:

  1. Choose "Join an existing relay team"
  2. Search for the team name provided by your captain.
  3. Enter the password provided by the captain.

I couldn't find enough people to form a team of four. What should I do?

Please contact us and let us know. We'll try to group you up with other people who are in the same situation so that everyone who wants to race can race.

What is the deadline for registration?

Meet registration closes at midnight on Friday, August 15. This gives the meet directors time to finalize heat assignments and heat schedule.

Can I register on the morning of the meet?

Yes! To register on the morning of the meet, bring your phone and all four members of your team with you to the check-in table. Use your phone to register and pay for your team. All four members of your relay team will be required to sign waivers either online or on paper. Once you have registered, you will complete the same check-in process as every other team.

Note: registration for each relay closes 30 minutes before the relay is scheduled to start.

When will heat assignments be available?

The heat assignments and heat schedule will be posted on the race website and emailed to participants on Saturday, August 16.

How do I get to the meet?

Driving: Driving directions are available on our home page. Street parking is available on NE US Grant Place and NE 33rd Avenue, adjacent to the track.

Cycling: NE US Grant Place is part of the Tillamook Neighborhood Greenway. Bike parking is available at Grant High School between the softball field and the High School.

Transit: Grant High School is served by Line 70 along NE 33rd Avenue and Line 77 along NE Broadway. Other nearby transit options include Line 75 less than half a mile away, Line 24 less than a mile away, and the Hollywood Transit Center less than a mile away.

How do I check-in for the meet?

Before arriving at Grant High School, please take note of your heat assignment and its scheduled start time. There will be a table near the finish line at the northwest corner of the track where we will check in teams. The check-in deadline is 30 minutes before the scheduled start of your heat.

One person may check in their relay team. That person will be given four hip numbers to distribute to the other members of the relay team. Hip numbers are stickers that should be displayed on the left hip of all four members of the relay team. Hip numbers help us line up the teams on the starting line and accurately hand-time them.

Is there a minimum age to participate?

Racing at Rose City Relays is available to ages 12 and up. Younger kids under the supervision of a parent our guardian are welcome to come cheer for their family or friends.
