Ride Safety and Etiquette

Welcome to Ride the Vines!
At Bike the Vines (BTV), our mission is to create unforgettable cycling experiences through the beautiful Temecula Valley. We want every rider to fully enjoy the journey — from the scenic vineyard views to the thrill of the open road. Most importantly, we want everyone to stay safe while doing it.
To ensure a fun and memorable ride for all, we ask that every participant follows a few simple safety guidelines and practices good cycling etiquette. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or new to group rides, your attention to safety and courtesy helps protect you, your fellow riders, and the communities we travel through.
Please take a moment to review the following information before you hit the road. Let's ride smart, respect each other, and make every mile amazing!
All riders will be required to wear a helmet!
Follow Traffic Laws:
Obey all traffic signals, signs, and road markings.
Ride with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road (unless otherwise instructed and safe).
Use hand signals clearly to indicate turns and stops.
Be aware of your surroundings and anticipate the actions of drivers and pedestrians.
Ride Predictably: Maintain a consistent line and avoid sudden movements.
Communicate:
Call out hazards to other riders (e.g., "Hole!", "Glass!", "Car up!").
Signal your intentions clearly.
If riding in a group, communicate your pace and any needs.
Group Riding Etiquette:
Maintain a safe distance from the rider in front of you.
Avoid overlapping wheels.
Be aware of riders around you, especially when passing.
If you need to stop, pull off the road safely and signal your intention.
Stay Hydrated and Fueled: Drink water and eat snacks regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty or hungry.
Be Visible: Wear brightly colored clothing. Consider using reflective elements, especially in lower light conditions.
Use Lights (If Applicable): If the ride extends into dusk or dawn, use front (white) and rear (red) lights.
Be Aware of Road Conditions: Watch out for potholes, gravel, slippery surfaces, and other hazards.
Listen to Your Body: If you feel tired, unwell, or experience any pain, stop and rest or seek assistance.
Follow Ride Marshals and Volunteers: They are there to help ensure your safety.
At Rest Stops: Be mindful of other riders, dispose of trash properly, and replenish your supplies.
