Is fundraising required to participate?

Fundraising is not required to participate in the Harpoon 5-Miler however, any donation made is apricated to help ALS research!

I do not want to run the Harpoon 5-Miler, but can I donate to support the cure and care of ALS?

Yes! Harpoon 5-Miler will be raising money for the Angel Fund for ALS Research and the Peter Frates Family Foundation. When you register for the Harpoon 5-Miler and make a donation, you’ll be eligible for the following Harpoon gifts. By donating $50+, you will receive a Harpoon Baseball Cap. Donations of $100+ will receive a Harpoon Insulated Stainless Steel Travel Cup. Donations of $250+ will receive a Harpoon IPA Sherpa Lined Blanket.

Does the donation page close on race day or remain open afterward?

The donation page will remain open after race day for a few weeks, however to be considered for the fundraising awards, all donations must be made by June 1, 2026.

What types of awards are given out?

  • Fastest Overall (Male/Female)
  • Fastest Friend of Harpoon (Male/Female)
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Pushrim & Handcycle
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place (Male/Female) in the following age categories: 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+   
  • 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Non-Binary Participants
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Male 4-Pack Team
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Female 4-Pack Team
  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Coed 4-Pack Team (must be a minimum of 1 female or male to qualify)
  • Note on timing: 1st Place Male/Female winning times are determined by "gun time" as per USATF rules.

There are also two fundraising awards which are The Richard Hackel Award and the Scott Carlson Award.

  • The Richard Hackel Award goes to the runner that goes above and beyond, raising the most funds for The Angel Fund or The Peter Frates Family Foundation.
  • The Scott Carlson Award goes to the fundraising team that goes above and beyond, raising the most funds for The Angel Fund or The Peter Frates Family Foundation.
