I lost my mom to cancer in 2007 - 19 years ago. Watching her and my father endure the diagnosis, treatments, waiting for scans, hanging on the hope of a new treatment, then the next treatment... and the next... broke my heart. It broke their hearts despite their daily show of strength. If you knew my parents, you know they didn't deserve it - no one does. I still miss her. Every single day I've missed her - for 19 years.
What gave us hope during her illness was knowing that research continued. Novel treatments extended her life long enough to welcome my three children into the world. When my sweet work team member, Son, lost his cancer battle last year, I decided to join my company's American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon team: "Les Nerds En Tour." I want to give back - and this is a perfect opportunity.
I have not seriously ridden a bike since my 3-speed Sea Trails Huffy back on Cold Spring Circle. Riding 66.5 miles from the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia to Ventor, NJ is frightening! Thankfully, my sister Andrea - who is an expert cyclist - is training with me and will take the 66.5 mile ride with me - City to Shore!
Please support me as I raise money for this worthy cause.
Why I support the American Cancer Society: Cancer has touched too many people I know and love, which is why I’ve joined the American Cancer Society to make a difference. By supporting this important work, I’m celebrating cancer survivors, honoring those we've lost, and raising critical funds to help end cancer as we know it, for everyone. The money I raise helps fund groundbreaking research, provides vital information for those facing cancer, and supports free rides to treatment and free lodging when care is far from home. Most of all, I know the funds raised brings hope to the people who need it most.
By standing with the American Cancer Society, I stand with the 18 million cancer survivors in the U.S. today—and with those who may one day hear the words, “You have cancer.” That’s why I’d be so grateful for your support. Please donate to my efforts, and together, we can help end cancer as we know it—for everyone.
