BREAKTHROUGH CHALLENGE RULES OF THE ROAD

ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR A HELMET

No exceptions.

OBEY All TRAFFIC LAWS:

Observe traffic signs, including stop signs; stop at red lights, etc. Don't jeopardize your safety and the safety of others by disobeying traffic laws.

RIDE SINGLE FILE

Unless you are passing the rider ahead of you.

BE VIGILANT TO THE ROAD CONDITIONS

While the road surfaces of the Breakthrough Challenge routes are paved, not all are devoid of potholes and other "road furniture" common to the back roads on which you will ride.

BE AWARE WHEN CROSSING BUSY INTERSECTIONS

Stop, look, and listen.

USE HAND SIGNALS WHEN TURNING

Look back, signal, and look again before you turn.

PASSING A FELLOW RIDER:

Cyclists of all abilities ride in the Breakthrough Challenge. Don't assume that another rider knows what you will do next. Announce your presence if you would like to pass another rider.

THE ROADS ARE NOT CLOSED TO TRAFFIC:

Cars will be present on the roads. You may also encounter horses, farm equipment, dog walkers, runners, carriages, buggies, etc. SLOW DOWN, ANNOUNCE YOUR PRESENCE, AND PASS WITH CAUTION.

BE RESPECTFUL OF THE LAND AND THE PROPERTY OWNER — CARRY OUT YOUR TRASH:

Volunteers will not be cleaning up items left behind on the course (wrappers from bars, gel shots, etc.). Place your trash in the appropriate bags at rest stops or carry with you on the course.

BRING A WATER BOTTLE:

There will be coolers of water and Gatorade at all rest stops, and at the start and finish line.
