Description

Introducing the TRI Holly Triathlons and Duathlon:

Our race venue has been carefully selected with your experience and proximity to the metro area in mind. Here's why it's the perfect choice:

First it is for most folks in the tri-county area as well as north of Oakland County less than a 2-hour drive to the park.  Simply exit at Grange Hall Rd. off of I-75 and the park is 2 miles off the exit.

Safety First: Enjoy the peace of mind of a closed course. With no vehicles to contend with on the bike route, you can focus entirely on your race, free from traffic worries or accidents.

Ideal Water Conditions: Dive into a swim like no other. The lake's water temperature hovers around a comfortable 70 degrees this time of year unless we have a very cold, wet spring it could be in the mid to upper 60's, offering ideal conditions for a refreshing and invigorating swim.

Holly Recreation Area Delights: Beyond the race, discover a haven of amenities for racers and their families. From camping sites to hiking trails, fishing spots, and more, there's something for everyone to enjoy before and after the event.

Crafted Course Excellence: With over 18 years of meticulous development, our course promises both challenge and safety. From the time trial swim start to the closed road bike route and the revamped run course, every detail has been honed to provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience.

Family Fun: Make it a day out for everyone. Our venue's family-friendly atmosphere, complete with post-race picnic options, invites participants to bring along loved ones, ensuring an enriching experience for all.
In summary, our race venue blends safety, comfort, and enjoyment seamlessly, making it the perfect setting for an unforgettable event.

This remains one of Kenny's favorite courses because the lake is small enough that it is always warm and flat, the bike course is challenging and keeps you constantly changing gears to keep your momentum and cadence.  Although he loved the old run course being on all the challenging trails in the park, the new course is much faster.

OVERVIEW

Consistent Water Temperature: The water temperature at Herron Lake consistently ranges from the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit, offering comfortable conditions for swimmers regardless of the time of year.  Being such a small, shallow lake it is always flat, so this is a great season opening and newbie swim.

Closed Bike Course: The bike course is entirely closed to traffic, ensuring the safety of participants while also offering a fun and challenging route. The rolling to hilly terrain provides an exhilarating challenge for cyclists, with opportunities for communication and a need for focus, especially at the fast downhill turn near the Transition Area.

Scenic Run Course: While the trail portion of the run course has been eliminated, the dirt road and paved run still offer a scenic and enjoyable route. The rolling terrain, including a 500m climb out from the lake, provides both challenge and variety for runners, with a fast descent back down to the beach adding an exciting element to the course.
