Six Pillars Century --- VIRTUAL OPTION

Greetings riders of the 2020 Six Pillars Century ride. This ride, to support the MidShore Character Counts organization, was originally scheduled for May of 2020. With the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we had to, unfortunately, postpone the event to October 10th, 2020. We have developed a multi-point mitigation strategy, with the hopes of keeping both our riders, our staff, and the community of Dorchester County as safe as we can make the event.

So… what’s happening with the event?

Unfortunately, local government and health agencies have determined that the event should not be held in 2020. Their concerns are that of a health nature, with October having the potential for both COVID-19 and the traditional flu season. They were also concerned with riders who may travel from higher risk areas to Dorchester County. Ultimately, the decision was made for the overall health and safety of everyone involved.

So what does that mean for you, our supporting riders?

It means that we will be back at it in 2021, with a bigger and better event than you have had in years!! All of our same great aide stations will be back, and we are expanding our SWAG (Stuff We All Get) and adding a few premiums on for fundraisers and for direct purchase (think custom socks and A BIKE JERSEY!!). We are also going to have local vendors at our finish celebration, with hot food for all of our riders! You don’t have to do a thing… we’ll take care of moving the event over to the 2021 date for you! Should 2021 not work for you (prospective date is May 1, 2021), just let us know and we can move you as far out as the 2022 date!

When we originally postponed the event in May, many of you were gracious enough to offer your registration fee as a donation to our organization. For that, we say THANK YOU!! The funds from this event help with the day to day expenses of operation a non-profit organization, such as ours. Should you wish to make your entry a donation, please feel free to reach out to us at and let us know. We will send you a letter for your tax purposes, so that you can declare the donation. We appreciate all of you who continue to support our wonderful organization!!

Virtual Ride

Ride the event virtually.... Riding virtually can be done anywhere, at any time, on any course. Ride outside with your family, or challenge yourself to a trainer ride indoors. If you choose the VIRTUAL option, you will receive a race shirt, as well as a custom water bottle, mailed to you in early October. This event is open to anyone, so new riders can certainly sign up as well. Make it a family challenge, all while supporting Character Counts MidShore!!

So how do I find out about 2021?

If you haven’t had a chance to look at the new site, you can still find us at,  but we have a new registration platform, BikeSignUp! This platform will let us get all of the information to you about the event, and be able to show off our maps, videos, pictures, and any up to the minute information, as well as host our registration. No more leaving our site to go to another registration platform. The new platform will also let you set up a fundraiser, should you want to meet one of our SWAG challenges, and earn even better stuff!

We are sad to say that we won't get to see everyone this year, but we are excited for our plans for the event in 2021. We are bringing back some great things (think Hot Food and Cold Drinks) that will make this an event to remember. We appreciate all of the support that you have shown us with this event this year, and we can't wait to say THANK YOU, in person, in 2021! appreciate the organizations that have taken the time to look over our strategies, and who made the difficult decision to hold our event this year. We understand, and support, the difficult decisions and look forward to working with everyone for the 2021 event!

Be well, stay safe, and keep the rubber side down! Remember, we woulda if we coulda......

Here Are Your Options:

We will transfer your registration to the new event date on May 1, 2021, and look forward to having you join us. Thanks for your patience!

Virtual rides happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply ride whichever distance on your own, and report your results - we’ll send you instructions.

You understand that events are expensive, even when cancelled, and you want us to keep your registration fees to help cover our costs. We deeply appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

If you choose this option, we can send you a letter to use for your donation purposes.

Established in 1998, Character Counts Mid Shore, Inc. is a non-profit education organization that fosters positive character development through citizen-driven character enrichment programs to students in grades K-12 in Talbot, Dorchester, and Caroline Counties in Maryland. Our highly trained volunteers, called Character Coaches, reach over 8,500 children each year in 26 schools with age-appropriate lessons based on the Six Pillars of Character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. The continuous support from all of our wonderful riders enable us to continue to guide our youth on a path towards good character and positive life choices. This not only enables CCMS to provide lesson materials, resources, and ongoing training sessions for all our volunteers but also allows the Character Coaches to reach students every week during the school year. CCMS receives no funds from the Government or the schools it serves.
